Call of Duty: MW 3, Warzone Season 1 now available: new maps, playable trains, Zombies story missions, more

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and its Warzone component debuted its Season 1 multiplayer today, its first major update since launch. The former gets three new maps as part of the 24/7 playlist, in addition to a 6v6 arena set in Rio, which will be available later in the season. As usual, there are some rewards for scoring kills without dying, granting players an EMP upon achieving 13 killstreaks and the ability to summon a swarm of mosquitoes as cover upon 15 killstreaks. There is also a new perk called Assassin Vest, which makes players immune to UAV scans and does not make skulls pop on the minimap when performing executions.

The three new maps take you to a coastal town in ‘Greece’, a blood-soaked nearby slaughterhouse called ‘Meat’ and a ‘training facility’ set in a warehouse that enables 2v2 gun battles. Building on that, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III brings back two fan-favorite modes – All or Nothing equips players with a throwing knife and an empty pistol, allowing them to slowly kill through killstreaks and perk activations. Moves with slowly upgrading weapons. Then there are standard round-based gunfights with smaller teams. Ranked play is expected to drop later in Season 1, along with promotional skins for the upcoming Denis Villeneuve film Dune: Part 2 – featuring Paul Atreides and Fayd-Rautha Harkonnen – and an in-game event called ‘Trial of Power’. There are no specific details about the incident yet, but we can assume that the timing of the collaboration was linked to the film’s delay from November to March 2024 due to Hollywood labor strikes. Still, an odd game has been chosen to promote Dune 2.

On Warzone, Call of Duty’s long-running battle-royale mode, the brand new Urzikstan map is now live, taking you to a gray metropolis surrounded by lavish resorts, power mills, a military base, a luxurious mansion, and more. Will take in. Activision describes it as a point where the Middle East meets Europe – or to put it more specifically in the game’s universe, it is located on ‘the eastern border of the Black Sea and the border of Al Mazrah’. As previously reported, the map adds some unique mechanics such as horizontal ziplines for traversal and a drivable train, whose speed can be controlled by players using dedicated levers. Of course, one can also go backwards and do a brake flip. With such big changes comes a new 1v1 Gulag called ‘Silo’, which is completely symmetrical but will vary depending on luck.

Season 1 also brings a new story mission to the Zombies mode, which creates a ‘giant gateway’ into the Exclusion Zone for players to investigate. Additionally, there is a new battle pass, which promises new weapon unlocks like the XRX Stalker, RAM-7, and Stormender that can be added to your loadout. The Call of Duty roadmap also reveals plans for Christmas-themed events and game modes, a skin for A-Train from the Amazon Prime Video series The Boys, and more – you can check out the full patch notes on the official website.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone Season 1 is now live on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X.
