Don’t expect many details on Elder Scrolls 6 until “six months before release,” says former Skyrim designer

The Elder Scrolls 6 may have been announced five years ago, but a former Bethesda designer doesn’t think we’ll learn much about it until release.

We all know that Elder Scrolls 6 is on its way out, although we don’t know when that will be yet. After all, the proper development of the sequel that has been waiting for more than a decade just started last August. So it’s not at all surprising to hear that it might be a while until we hear anything concrete. According to Bruce Nesmith, who was Bethesda’s former lead designer who worked on the seminal Skyrim, we won’t hear anything concrete about the game until about six months before its release (via MinnMax).

Great interview with Bruce Nesmith at MinnMax.

“Todd’s opinion, which I share by the way is that the video game industry has short memories,” Nesmith said, about when we can expect to see the game. “Those companies that start touting their games years in advance – actually, you know, they’re fooling themselves. The best time to start talking about this is six months into hasn’t been released yet. So the fact that everything was – you know, the pitchforks and Extinguished torches, that’s what made Todd say ‘yeah, let’s do Elder Scrolls 6 – I promise you it’s true , it will happen!’

“But I bet you won’t hear a lot of details until a good six months before release, which is the way it should be – I think that’s the best approach and he’s proven it works well, at least for Bethesda.”

Six months seems like a reasonable timeline for Bethesda. After all, we didn’t really get a more thorough look at Starfield until the game’s big showcase in June. Oddly enough, Starfield was announced in the same year as The Elder Scrolls 6 as well, in 2018. While that was a good few years ago now, considering the same press conference was when they announced the Amazon Alexa version of Skyrim, a confirmation of a sequel felt long overdue.

If you’re interested in hearing more of Nesmith’s thoughts on what The Elder Scrolls 6 will be like, the full interview is worth watching, as he’s confident that the sequel will see the return of Skyrim’s “you do it to will be better at it.” leveling system, and “traces” in its magic system.
