Grok, an AI chatbot developed by Elon Musk’s xAI, has gone live on X (formerly Twitter). The ChatGPT rival, which takes a humorous tone in contrast to existing chatbots, will be available to X’s Premium+ customers. According to XAI, Grok assimilates real-time knowledge of the world through X and will respond to sensitive or controversial questions better than other AIs. Chatbots can decline. Grok doesn’t shy away from using profanity either.
X announced earlier Friday that Grok is being made available to Premium+ subscribers on the web, iOS, and Android next week. Access to the AI chatbot will initially be limited to users in the US – XAI has not specified a timeline for a wider release. Grok can be found on the side menu on the web version of X and the updated X app on iOS and Android. Users can also add it by going to the bottom menu of the app Premium > Preferences > Extras > Custom Navigation For easy access.

According to the announcement post on X, the longer a user remains a Premium+ subscriber, the sooner he or she can access Grok. X users have already begun posting screenshots of their interactions with the new chatbot, with one even calling for Musk to be roasted based on his X post. Grok is also comfortably answering “spicy” questions and making jokes at the user’s expense. One of the default prompt suggestions for chatbots is “Roast Me Grok”.
Last month, Musk said that his artificial intelligence startup xAI would be integrated into his social media platform X and would also be available as a standalone app. Musk has positioned xAI as a “maximal truth-finding AI” that differentiates itself from its rivals OpenAI, Google and Microsoft. “Grok has access to information in real-time through the X platform, which is a huge advantage over other models,” Musk said at the time.
Grok was first announced last month for X Premium+ subscribers as a rival to OpenAI’s ChatGPIT, Google’s Bard and Microsoft’s Copilot. Chatbots can access real-time information through X, generate conversational responses to questions, and consider controversial topics. The chatbot Grok-1 is powered by a large language model, which has undergone several iterations over time.
An X Premium+ subscription, which gives access to Grok, comes at Rs. 13,600 for the annual plan or Rs. 1,300 monthly on the web. On iOS, the annual plan costs Rs. 22,900, while the monthly plan comes at Rs. 2,299.
