Instagram feature to download publicly posted Reels now available globally

Instagram introduced the ability to download Reels posted by public accounts in the US earlier this year. The company has now confirmed that the feature is being rolled out to users globally. Until now, Instagram users could share Reels directly to their Stories or DM on public profiles. Users can also save the reels they access through the Saved Reels tab on the application. However, with the help of the new feature, users around the world will now be able to share the downloaded Reels through other platforms as well.

Instagram Head Adam Mosseri announced All users through their broadcast channel can now download Reels shared by public accounts and save them directly to their Camera Roll. He said any reels originally downloaded would feature the creator’s Instagram handle as a watermark. Since this feature is still available to all users, it may take some time for it to be reflected on your account.

Notably, even public accounts have the ability to turn off the Reels download feature, in which case, users will not be able to save Reels from those accounts to their gallery. Users can still save those reels to watch later. You can tap on the three dots and save related reel and reach it through Rescued Tab.

However, if a public account has the ability to download Reels enabled, you can save the video to your Camera Roll by tapping share button with the paper airplane icon on the desired reel and then tap download Option. On the other hand, if you have a public account, you can choose Stop it By going to the default download option for your reels profile , Settings & Privacy , Sharing and Remix , Your reels are downloading And then toggle the download button.

However, Instagram users can download their Reels without watermarks from saved drafts and also share them on their Stories or Instagram DMs. To share Reels posted by public profiles through other social media apps like WhatsApp, Telegram etc., users first had to copy and paste the links of the respective chats. Now, with the new update, Instagram Reels saved in Camera Roll can be directly shared as a video file through other social media apps without copying the URL.
