Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is the fastest-selling PlayStation game ever, and has sold over 2.5 million copies – WGB, Home of AWESOME Reviews

We all know that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be a hero when it comes to sales, but the question is really how impressive will it be. According to Insomniac and Sony, it is the fastest-selling PlayStation title in history, beating the previous record-holder and easily destroying both of the previous two Spidey titles.

“Good news, Spidey fans,” reads a Tweet from the official PlayStation account, “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has sold more than 2.5 million copies in the first 24 hours. Thanks for making it a high flying launch!”

There was one important detail hidden in the Tweet: 2.5 million were sold, not just shipped. Consigned copies refer to copies sold in brick-and-mortar stores where they may sit for a long time, while copies “sold through” specifically refer to copies that are actually sold to customers. , digital and physical.

According to Sony, these numbers make Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 the fastest-selling PlayStation game ever, beating the previous holder God of War: Ragnarock which sold 5.1 million copies in its first week, although Sony did not provide any data for the first day of its sale.

As for the first Marvel’s Spider-Man game, it sold 3.3 million in 3 days. Again, no specific data was shared in the first 24-hours making direct comparisons difficult. In other words, we should take Sony at their word when it comes to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 sales.

But it is not difficult to imagine that they are right. The hype for this sequel was insane, and its critical reception made Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 the 8th best game of the year according to Opencritic.

The only remaining question is how Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 stacks up at the end of the year. In a few months of 2023, does it have a chance to become the highest selling game of the year? Currently, Hogwarts Legacy holds that position, although its reign is hotly contested because The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom sits in second place and Nintendo does not report digital sales data, meaning that we do not know the true power of the Tears of the Kindoms.
