ESET’s analysis of cybercrime campaigns in Latin America reveals a dramatic shift from opportunistic crimeware to more complex threats, including those targeting businesses and governments.

This week, ESET researchers announced the release of a report looking at more than a dozen publicly documented malicious campaigns targeting Latin America between 2019 and 2023. Over the past few year, there has been a remarkable increase in the number and complexity of such. campaigns within this region. Cybercriminals there continue to refine their tactics, for example through advanced social engineering techniques or by refining the multi-stage compromise chain. Their targets have also changed over time – from the general public to high-profile users, including businesses and governments.
