The game is also getting a visual upgrade. The Last of Us Part II Remastered will get native 4K output in Fidelity mode, 1440p upscaled to 4K in Performance mode, and an unlocked framerate option for TVs that support variable refresh rates. According to Naughty Dog, the remaster will include increased texture resolution, increased level-detail distances, improved shadow quality, animation sampling rates, and more. The game also promises faster load times and better immersion with haptic feedback and adaptive trigger support on the DualSense controller.

The upcoming remaster will also include some cut content from the original game. Players will be able to explore a new set of unfinished ‘Lost Levels’ in the playable sequels, which Naughty Dog says will provide a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the game’s creation. Lost Levels will also include embedded developer commentary to provide context on the parts of the game that did not make the cut.

Pre-orders for both the standard edition and the new WLF Edition of The Last of Us Part II Remastered begin on December 5, which includes a Steelbook display case and other in-game trinkets. All existing owners of the original game on PS4 will be provided a $10 (roughly Rs. 833) upgrade path to the remastered version on PS5. While previous leaks indicated that Naughty Dog was working on a remaster of The Last of Us Part II, a developer at the studio accidentally revealed this in a LinkedIn post in October.
