WhatsApp introduces pinned messages for individual and group chats

WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature that lets users pin messages in chats to easily find important conversations. With this feature, users can highlight a specific message in both individual and group chats and pin it to the top of the chat. A message can be pinned in a chat for 30 days. All types of messages can be pinned, including text, polls and emojis. However, users can pin only one chat at a time.

Meta-owned instant messaging app WhatsApp announced The pinned messages were added via a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday (Dec. 13). This feature allows users to highlight a specific message in any ongoing one-on-one and group conversations and pin it to the top of that chat. This would be ideal for pinpointing important details such as address, date or phone number, and providing quick reference to old messages.

Users can pin a chat by long pressing on a conversation and selecting pin From the menu. A message can be pinned to a chat for 24 hours, seven days, or a month, however, seven days is the default period. All types of content can be pinned, including text messages, files, emojis, images, polls or videos. Admins in a WhatsApp group can decide whether pinning of messages is limited to only admins or participants. As always, users will be able to unpin these messages whenever they want.

WhatsApp’s competitors in the messaging space, Telegram and iMessage, already offer a PIN message feature. This update was first seen on WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.21.4.

Meta has recently introduced several features to its instant messaging platform. WhatsApp recently announced the View Once option for voice messages. This feature allows users to send a voice message that will disappear after the recipient listens to it. WhatsApp is also reportedly working on a new feature that will let users share HD images and videos in their status updates. Additionally, it is said to be developing an optional feature that could let users share WhatsApp status directly to Instagram.
